The Yellow King RPG is written by Robin D. Laws and published by Pelgrane Press. It uses a version of the Gumshoe system called Quickshock Gumshoe. Quickshock Gumshoe distills the Gumshoe system down to its basic components and simplifies them. All dice rolls for any check are resolved with a single D6 roll, and combats are resolved by a single D6 roll for each character within the encounter. The GM never needs to roll the dice. This is a very roleplaying heavy game, there is very little crunch. If you are a min-max type of gamer this game is probably not for you. If you like story and interactive story telling, continue on.
The Yellow King RPG is essentially a series of four settings based on Robert W. Chambers King in Yellow and other related works. Unlike other RPGs in the genre, The Yellow King RPG does not combine Chambers, Lovecraft, and others works to form one mythology.
The setting is composed of four interlocking settings, designed to be played in order, each with its own source book in the core set. The first setting is 1890s Paris, being the 1890s Paris we would know from our history. The next two settings take a divergent path from the history as we know it, with the break happening around the events of the first setting. The second setting is The Wars, set in the 1940s in what could be described as a Weird World War setting. The third being The Aftermath, set in the modern day just after the fall of American Empire. Finally the last setting book is This is Normal Now, set in modern day as we know it.
I cannot do justice to the setting with only one sentence descriptions. I will be posting the adventures and updates from my campaign as my players play the adventure. My hope at the end is to have a campaign a GM could pick up and run.
